AMC’S CEO FINDS OUT ROBINHOOD SOLD A TOKEN WITH HIS COMPANY’S NAME ON IT — ‘WE HAVE NO CONNECTION TO THIS AT ALL’

The paper business will put anyone’s name on a wrapper, whether or not the name agrees.
Adam Aron found out the way everyone finds out — someone showed him. Robinhood sells a token called AMC that tracks his company’s stock. AMC didn’t authorize it, doesn’t back it, and per Aron “does not condone it in any way.” He called it “contemptible” and hired securities lawyers. What the token actually is: a derivative that gives you AMC’s price with none of the ownership — no share, no vote, no claim. OpenAI caught Robinhood doing the same thing last year with tokens on a company that isn’t even public, and NYSE’s own tokenization partners warned in May that synthetic stock tokens could mislead retail. The pattern to notice: the paper business will put anyone’s name on a wrapper, whether or not the name agrees. There is one asset where the token is the thing itself, needs no issuer’s permission, and has no CEO to disavow it. That’s the whole design.
KEY RECEIPTS UPDATE SAT SEP 5, 10:45 AM ET: Aron escalated — he called the token “contemptible, outrageous, inexcusable,” demanded Robinhood “CEASE the trading of AMC stock tokens,” and says AMC’s securities counsel is examining whether it can force a stop. Robinhood’s CEO Vlad Tenev: “We stand behind Stock Tokens.” Chief Legal Officer Dan Gallagher: “We know a little something about the U.S. securities laws. Send your lawyers and we’ll educate them.” AMC shares jumped premarket from Thursday’s $2.54 close toward $3.07 (@CEOAdam on X + CoinDesk).
Aron on X (Thursday): “Robinhood apparently is behind an effort related to ‘tokenized real-world assets including Stock Tokens’ for AMC Entertainment. We have no connection to this at all, and do not condone it in any way.” He called the practice “contemptible” and “outrageous” and said AMC is engaging outside securities counsel.
Robinhood’s stock tokens are derivatives — economic exposure to the price with no ownership of the underlying share. Other models custody real shares and issue tokens against them; issuer-sponsored models put registered shares onchain with the company’s consent. Robinhood’s is neither.
Precedent: OpenAI publicly disavowed Robinhood’s OpenAI tokens in July 2025 — a private company whose “equity” Robinhood tokenized via an SPV.
NYSE tokenization partners warned in May 2026 that synthetic stock tokens could mislead retail traders.
Robinhood has rolled out tokens tracking hundreds of U.S. stocks and ETFs and is building its own blockchain for tokenized assets.

If the company says the token isn’t the share, believe the company.
The cap is still twenty-one million.
