ANCHORAGE DIGITAL CUTS 17% OF STAFF, THE INFORMATION REPORTS — THE FIRST CRYPTO FIRM WITH A NATIONAL TRUST CHARTER — NO WORD FROM THE COMPANY YET
Anchorage Digital has cut 17% of its workforce, The Information reported on October 2, 2026, in a report Cointelegraph passed on. Anchorage had about 400 employees as of February, according to congressional testimony by chief executive Nathan McCauley. That would put the cut near 68 jobs.
Anchorage was the first crypto company to get a national trust charter from the Office of the Comptroller of the Currency, in 2021. It was valued at $4.2 billion earlier in 2026, took a $100 million investment from Tether, and issues Tether's US stablecoin, USAT. Cointelegraph said Anchorage had not answered a request for comment.
What a custody client can check about any of this: almost nothing. Staffing, controls and who signs off on a withdrawal all live inside the company. The coins sit on a public ledger, but the promise about whose they are does not. A wallet whose keys you hold is the one custody setup you can audit yourself. At the time of this writing, bitcoin was $84,118.
