BITCOIN CORE 32.1 BINARIES ARE POSTED — 11 BUILDERS’ HASHES MATCH — THE PENDING ANNOUNCEMENT DATES 29.X END OF LIFE OCT. 27 — 8,420 REACHABLE CORE NODES, 41.78%, RUN 29 OR OLDER

The Bitcoin Core 32.1 files are up. Our check at 18:55 UTC on October 27, 2026 still got not found at bitcoincore.org/bin/bitcoin-core-32.1/. Now the folder holds builds for Linux, Mac and Windows, and its listing stamps the checksum file 19:32. On October 26 this desk wrote that the 32.1 release notes pointed to that folder while it didn’t exist. It exists now.

Bar chart: reachable Bitcoin Core nodes by major version in a Bitnodes crawl at 20:23 UTC on Oct. 27, 2026. Version 32: 176. Version 31: 10,239. Version 30: 1,318. Version 29 and older: 8,420, or 41.78% of 20,153.

You don’t have to trust whoever uploaded the files, and that’s the point. The checksum file carries eight PGP signatures. In the project’s guix.sigs repository, 11 people have posted their own hashes for 32.1, each from building the same code on their own machine. We checked the main Linux, Mac and Windows downloads against all 11. Every hash matched the posted file.

The announcement isn’t out. The 32.1 release page returned not found at 20:39 UTC on October 27, and again at 9:22 AM ET on October 28, by which time files for 31.2 and 30.4 had gone up too. The pull request that posts it, opened by maintainer fanquake on October 26, got its last commit at 20:00 UTC on October 27 and is still open. It dates the release October 27, 2026, and changes one line in the project’s support table: 29.x goes from end of life “after v32.0” to “2026-10-27”.

That date reaches a lot of nodes. A Bitnodes crawl at 20:23 UTC counted 20,153 reachable nodes running Bitcoin Core, and 8,420 of them, 41.78%, on 29 or older. The notes say those versions “will no longer receive updates.” They also start a clock: in two weeks the project will disclose “Medium and high severity vulnerabilities fixed in 30.0. There are 3 of these.” If the post goes out dated October 27, as drafted, that’s November 10. At the time of this writing, bitcoin was $80,606.
