Yesterday we shipped the Bitcoin Policy Institute coalition letter — BPI + Anchorage + Blockstream + Bitwise + Casa + Chaincode + Optech + Coinbase + BitGo, all urging frontier AI labs to open a pathway for qualified open-source defenders on frontier models. Every signatory was operator-class Bitcoin: node runners, custody providers, protocol maintainers, exchanges. All Technologist tier. The letter was strong; the coalition was inside-baseball.
WHAT CHANGED IN 24 HOURSCathie Wood signed on. ARK Invest CEO. Arguably the highest-profile Capitalist-tier voice on Bitcoin who isn’t Michael Saylor. She posted 2:19 PM ET Tuesday. She named the letter, named BPI, and framed AI as ‘the most powerful defensive technology in history.’ That’s the coalition graduating from operator-class insider signal to institutional-class validation in less than 24 hours from letter drop.
The Capitalist-tier read: Wood is showing up twice this week as the Cap-tier amplifier for our stories. Monday she was cited in Story #3 (Strategy digital credit) on record: ‘Saylor is testing the market on his own terms, not being forced into a fire sale.’ Tuesday she publicly backs the BPI AI letter. Two Cap-tier validations of two different operator-class positions in a 48-hour window. Wood is functioning as the institutional bridge between the four-character operator framework and the institutional-allocator audience that ARK reaches.
WHY THE AI FIREWALL MATTERSThe BPI letter’s ask is specific: frontier AI labs (OpenAI, Anthropic, Google DeepMind) should establish a formal pathway for verified open-source security researchers to access frontier models for defensive research.
