COINBASE THURSDAY — $1.31B RAILS TAPE INTO SOFT-CRYPTO QUARTER

Analysts expect Trading Volume to come in at $160.91 billion, versus the year-ago value of $237 billion. Monthly Transacting Users are projected at 8.15 million, versus 8.70 million a year ago.
COIN prints Thursday after the close. Consensus: EPS $0.15 (+25% YoY), revenue $1.31B (-12.8% YoY), net revenue $1.24B (-12.6%), transaction revenue $640M (-16.3%). Trading Volume $160.91B versus $237B a year ago; Institutional $132.6B from $194B; Consumer $28.2B from $43B. Monthly Transacting Users 8.15M from 8.70M. Assets on Platform $295B from $425B. The Capitalist read is not the beat/miss — it is the direction. Every operating metric is down year over year even as the industry narrative claims institutionalization. Exchange rails are contracting while self-custody, treasury wrappers, and on-chain infrastructure continue to absorb operator flow. The 8.15M MTU number is the tell: fewer active users on the platform, higher average transaction size at the institutional tier (Institutional now 82% of dollar volume), and a stablecoin revenue line ($339M projected, +2% YoY) that is essentially the only growth surface. This is a cap-structure story rendered in an exchange’s P&L. Custody + subscription + stablecoins are the durable business. Transaction revenue is retail-cyclical and the retail cycle is off. The Thursday print will not be a disaster — consensus is already priced to the contraction — but the read the Capitalist takes is that Coinbase is now a payments-and-stablecoin business with a legacy exchange attached, not the reverse. Watch the stablecoin revenue mix. Watch the custody AUM. Ignore the trading volume noise.
