THE U.S. GOVERNMENT MOVED 9,261 BITCOIN TO COINBASE PRIME IN TWO DAYS — 2,456 CAME FROM WALLETS NOBODY HAD TIED TO IT — GALAXY NOW ASSUMES THEY WERE SEIZURES

The U.S. government moved 9,261.6 bitcoin to Coinbase Prime in two days, according to Galaxy Research: 833.6 on October 6, 2026, and 8,428 on October 7. The two days came to about $770 million. October 7 alone was the ninth-largest outflow day from government wallets since 2013 and the biggest since December 2, 2024. Galaxy says about half came from Bitfinex hack coins and part from Binance-related seizures.

The new part is the rest. Galaxy found 2,456 bitcoin from wallets nobody had linked to the government, “which we now assume were USG seizures because they deposited into the USG Coinbase Prime deposit address.” That address has taken in 11,567 bitcoin since December 2025: 6,406 from known government wallets and about 5,160 from senders with no label. That is 44% from wallets the public was not watching.

Galaxy puts the federal balance at 319,086 bitcoin, down from a peak of 352,587 on August 13, 2024. Most of it is not settled property. About 94,643 is Bitfinex hack coins; Galaxy says a court approved their return in January 2025 and the wallet has not moved. Another 127,271 is the LuBian coins tied to Chen Zhi, under a civil forfeiture complaint filed in October 2025. Together that is 221,914, more than two thirds of the total. Galaxy calls it 71%. On its own figures we get 69.5%.

Cointelegraph asked the Marshals Service and the Justice Department about the moves and got no answer. A deposit to Coinbase Prime is not a sale, and nobody has said one happened. But a government stack that outsiders can count only by watching wallets move, and that keeps turning up coins nobody knew it held, is not one anyone outside can audit. The only balance you can check yourself is the one behind your own keys. At the time of this writing, bitcoin was $81,912.
