YIELD FOR YOUR EYES — WORLD PAYS A BETTER RATE FOR A SCAN OF YOUR IRIS — ITS OWN FINE PRINT CALLS THE BOOST LIMITED TIME AND THE RATE CHANGEABLE AT ANY TIME
World turned on a money app in more than 150 countries on September 17. Stablecoin balances in eight currencies, trading, earning, free payments anywhere. Then it makes an offer.
Stand in front of an Orb and let it scan your eye. The page says that unlocks “exclusive access, such as boosted rewards in Earn,” and that “proof of human turns into real utility you can hold in your hand.”
Keep reading the same page. The FAQ calls it “a limited-time promotional rewards boost.” The fine print says rewards are “variable, not guaranteed, and may change at any time,” and that World Money “is not a bank” and is not insured.
The trade is written out, by them, on one page. You hand over a scan of your eye, which you cannot change or take back. You get a rate they can end whenever they want.
Brazil called this in January 2025. Its data regulator banned the company from paying for biometrics because money “may interfere with the free expression of the will of individuals,” worst of all where people are poor. Ten more countries have moved against the eye scanning.
Stripe is the default way in, and Stripe owns Bridge, which runs the accounts a paycheck lands in. Morpho runs Earn. They get paid whether the boost lasts or not.
Bitcoin has no tiers. Nobody offers a better rate for proving who you are. There is nobody to ask. At the time of this writing, bitcoin was $76,690.
