The Fundamentalist critique of BIP-110 that Alden puts on record is technical but the point is straightforward: the proposal caps OP_RETURN at 83 bytes and restricts arbitrary data pushes above 256 bytes, but that structure does not actually stop the non-monetary data usage the proposal names as the target. Data usage that wants to persist will simply rearrange itself into other permitted forms — witness data, taproot annexes, standard script paths — and the spam problem, if it is a problem, migrates rather than resolves. The proposal solves for the appearance of the issue, not the mechanism of the issue.

The risk that Alden flags is the one that most deserves the airtime it is not getting. If BIP-110 fails to activate but a determined minority attempts to run it as a fork anyway, the network faces a minority-chain attempt at exactly the moment the discourse layer is worst equipped to handle it. That is not a Technologist protocol risk; that is a Fundamentalist coordination risk, and it is the kind of thing that reads as boring until the moment it isn't.
