BLOCK 970,000 IS IN — 80,000 BLOCKS TO THE NEXT HALVING — NO COMMITTEE, NO VOTE, NO MEETING MINUTES

Bitcoin mined block 970,000 at 10:45 UTC on October 5, 2026, 6:45 AM Eastern. The next halving comes at block 1,050,000. That leaves 80,000 blocks. At about 10 minutes a block, that is roughly 555 days, which puts it near April 12, 2028.

At the halving, the new coins in each block drop from 3.125 BTC to 1.5625. New supply goes from about 450 bitcoin a day to about 225. Nobody announces it. Nobody votes on it. The schedule has been in the code since the first release in 2009.

Compare that to every other money on the board. Their supply is set in meetings, and the minutes come out weeks later. Bitcoin's supply is set by a block count anyone can check from their own node.

It is a countdown nobody can speed up and nobody can stop. Twenty-one million is still twenty-one million. At the time of this writing, bitcoin was $85,386.
