BLOCKSTREAM MULTISIG IS BACK — WHEN THE TIMELOCK RUNS OUT YOUR KEY SPENDS ALONE — ITS HELP PAGE HAS NOT CAUGHT UP

Blockstream said on October 13, 2026 that multisig accounts are back in the Blockstream app, in version 5.7.0 on iOS and Android and 3.6.0 on desktop. A 2-of-2 account needs your device key and Blockstream’s server key, which signs only after you pass two-factor checks. A 2-of-3 account, Bitcoin only, adds a backup phrase you keep offline.

The part you can check is the exit. Each deposit carries its own timelock, built with CheckSequenceVerify. When it runs out, your device key alone can spend those coins. Blockstream says its open-source tool, garecovery, can do that without its help. With 2-of-3, your device key and your backup phrase can spend at once, with no wait.

The release says you can now pick about 6, 12 or 15 months on Bitcoin, with 12 as the default. Blockstream’s help page still describes a single default of 51,840 blocks, about 360 days, and no choice. At 144 blocks a day, 51,840 blocks is 360 days. The rule that counts is the one in the spending script, not the one on the help page.

Server cosigning is a trade. Blockstream can refuse to sign, and until the clock runs out your coins wait on it. What it cannot do is spend them without you. At the time of this writing, bitcoin was $83,082.
