CRYPTO VC MONEY ROSE 31% TO $5.68 BILLION — ON THE FEWEST NEW FUNDS SINCE 2019

The money came back, and you can see exactly whose pocket it came from. Venture firms put $5.68 billion into private crypto companies in the second quarter across 384 deals, up 31% from the first three months of the year—a real jump, quarter over quarter, not some year-ago mirage. But read the split before you cheer. Nearly four of every five dollars went to later-stage companies, the ones with revenue and a receptionist. Seed and young startups fought over the scraps.

Here is the tell the headline buries: only five new crypto funds raised money all quarter, the fewest new funds in a quarter since 2019. The checks got bigger; the number of new checkbooks shrank to five. That is not capital getting braver. That is capital getting picky, backing the businesses that already work and starving the ones that might. And the people counting all this are Galaxy, a crypto shop that eats better when everyone believes the money is back and going institutional. The ledger is real. The mood is being sold. Trust the first, discount the second: the rebound is genuine, and it is narrow.
