The European Union adopted its 21st sanctions package against Russia today, targeting what it identifies as a $120 billion crypto network moving value around Western financial controls. The package extends sanctions to third-country entities that facilitate the network — that's the mechanism upgrade. Previous sanctions rounds targeted entities inside Russia; this one reaches whoever anywhere touches the flow. The Fundamentalist read: the state's response to money it can't stop is to redefine jurisdiction. If crypto doesn't respect borders, the sanctions regime stops respecting them too. What that means for permissionless networks is the next chapter. Bitcoin itself is unsanctionable — no company to fine, no CEO to arrest. But the on-ramps and off-ramps are companies. The choke-points are the story. Every sanctions round teaches the next-generation of crypto infrastructure how to route around the current version.
