FOUR CRYPTO FIRMS DEAD IN SEVEN DAYS — STORJ CH 11 JUL 27, BITMEX SHUTDOWN JUL 23, BITMART WIND-DOWN JUL 26, MOVEMENT LABS CH 11 JUL 21. CAPITAL ROTATES TO AI. THE NETWORK KEEPS TICKING.
Four crypto companies announced a failure or wind-down inside seven days and the tape moved through it. Storj Labs filed for Chapter 11 on July 27, the fourth in the sequence. STORJ token fell 16% on the day, down 79% year-over-year, 98% from its March 2021 peak. Movement Labs filed Chapter 11 on July 21. BitMEX — the exchange that invented the perpetual swap — announced shutdown on July 23 after 11 years and $200 million in regulatory fines. BitMart announced its wind-down on July 26 with the BMX token down 58%. The common thread isn’t bad management. It’s capital rotation. Investor attention has moved to AI and marginal crypto infrastructure has fewer buyers and fewer places to raise. The Technologist reads the tape one way: the wrapper businesses die, the exchange businesses die, the sidechain businesses die — and the Bitcoin base layer produces block 959,862 unchanged. The network doesn’t need investor interest. The network doesn’t need a token sale. The network doesn’t need a solvent wind-down process. The network needs miners and nodes, and those are still there.
