$4,620 GOLD — TREASURY BUYBACKS DO THE DEBASEMENT WORK THE FED WON’T

Gold ripped 5% this week. The Treasury’s buybacks did the debasement work the Fed will not.
KEY RECEIPTS Spot gold: $4,580–$4,600 through the week. Futures brushed $4,650.
Weekly move: +5.1%, per Saxo Bank commodity strategist Ole Hansen.
Trigger: Treasury doubled its long-term bond buyback ops on Aug. 19. Program runs Sept. 9 through Nov. 4.
Dollar index: sank to 98.723 on Aug. 19. Lowest since May 14.
30-year Treasury yield: spiked to 5.337% (19-year high), pulled back to 5.198%.
Ole Hansen: gold is “continuing its strong run higher, gaining 1.8% on the day and 5.1% on the week.”
The Treasury said on Aug. 19 it would double its long-term bond buybacks. The 30-year yield had just hit a 19-year high. The buybacks pulled the yield back. They also hit the dollar. The dollar index sank to 98.723, its lowest since May.
Buybacks shift more government borrowing into short-term bills. Markets read that as dollar-negative. Gold answered. Robert Kiyosaki called the move QE by another name. Bitcoin.com’s report notes that call is not exact — the Treasury funds buybacks from new debt sales, not fresh central-bank money. The dollar’s response looked the same either way.
This is the Fundamentalist read. When the state dilutes the currency, real money answers. Gold cleared the World Gold Council’s June upside case for the full year. Next resistance sits near $4,770. Some traders talk $5,000 if the dollar keeps sliding.
Bitcoin is in the same trade. Mohamed El-Erian named bitcoin near $79,000 and gold past $4,600 as standout performers of the same tape. Robin Brooks, who coined the “debasement trade” thesis, said he would stay clear of bitcoin. Markets keep buying both. Gold is the trailer. Bitcoin is the feature.
Falsifier: if gold gives back the $4,620 handle on dollar strength, the debasement read pauses. It does not reverse.
Real money wakes up when the currency gets diluted.
Gold moved first. Bitcoin is in the same trade.
The cap is still twenty-one million.
