IBIT EATS THE WRAPPER CLASS — HASHDEX SHUTS FIRST SPOT BTC ETF EVER LIQUIDATED, IBIT 83% OF THURSDAY’S HAUL

Hashdex liquidated its DEFI Bitcoin ETF this week — the first U.S. spot Bitcoin ETF ever shut down. Final trading day August 17. The fund charged the same 0.25 percent expense ratio as BlackRock’s IBIT and held $14.7 million in assets. IBIT holds $47 billion. Twenty-six thousand dollars in annual fee revenue does not run a fund. Hashdex is selling its remaining 225 BTC into the session right now — during the best week Bitcoin has printed since 2023.
The mechanics of a wrapper-class shutdown. Holders who missed the August 17 exchange exit are owed net asset value in cash by August 24 or August 28 depending on the SEC filing you read, minus closing costs, adjusted for whatever Bitcoin does while Hashdex liquidates the 225 coins. A wrapper-class shakeout during a wrapper-class rally — the opposite tell from what a healthy sector-wide bid should produce.
Thursday’s flow tape is the same story from the top of book. Spot BTC ETFs pulled $606.29 million net — the biggest single-day haul since May 1. BlackRock’s IBIT captured $502.99 million of it. That is 83 percent of a session, up from 55 percent the day before. Fidelity’s FBTC took $64.74 million. Bitwise BITB $26.4 million. Ark 21Shares ARKB $12.2 million. VanEck HODL the sole outflow at $3.59 million.
The four-session pattern is the concentration signal. Across the four-session inflow run (Monday through Thursday), IBIT alone accounts for approximately $1.09 billion of the $1.61 billion combined take — 68 percent of the wrapper class’s aggregate demand. August month-to-date now stands at $2.07 billion, the 2026 monthly high, surpassing April’s $1.97 billion with seven trading sessions remaining. Combined spot BTC ETF net assets closed Thursday at $90.16 billion — 6.18 percent of Bitcoin’s market capitalization. Cumulative net inflows since January 11, 2024 launch: $53.40 billion.
The honest read on the chart. Bitcoin’s death cross is still holding since November 16, 2025. Price cleared the 200-day simple moving average at $69,005 this week. The 50-day sits at $63,976. Golden cross completes when 50-day crosses back above 200-day — roughly $5,000 more move needed. Price ran ahead of the flows and ahead of the chart structure. That is what a squeeze looks like: reflexive, front-run, incomplete.
The Capitalist read binds. Sub-scale ETF wrappers cannot survive when the dominant issuer takes 68-83 percent of daily inflow. Hashdex is not the last one out. Watch the second-tier wrappers — VanEck, Invesco, ARK — for AUM-versus-cost ratios that stop working. IBIT is not just leading the trade. It is compounding until every other wrapper in the class is a rounding error.
THE WRAPPER-CLASS TAPE, DOCUMENTED 1) Hashdex DEFI: first U.S. spot Bitcoin ETF ever liquidated. Final trading day Aug 17. AUM $14.7M. Expense ratio 0.25%. Remaining 225 BTC into the session.
2) Thursday session: $606.29M net inflow across spot BTC ETFs — biggest single-day since May 1.
3) IBIT Thursday: $502.99M — 83% of the session. Up from 55% the day before.
4) Runners up Thursday: FBTC $64.74M / BITB $26.4M / ARKB $12.2M / HODL −$3.59M (sole outflow).
5) Four-session run (Mon–Thu): $1.61B combined. IBIT ~$1.09B (68%).
6) August MTD: $2.07B — 2026 monthly high. Beats April’s $1.97B with 7 sessions to go.
7) Combined AUM: $90.16B at Thursday close = 6.18% of BTC market cap.
8) Cumulative net inflow since Jan 11 2024: $53.40B.
9) Chart structure: death cross still active since Nov 16 2025. 200-day SMA $69,005 (cleared this week). 50-day $63,976. Golden cross needs ~$5K more.
10) Watch: second-tier wrapper AUM-vs-cost math. VanEck, Invesco, ARK the next candidates for liquidation math to stop working.
Sub-scale wrappers do not survive when one issuer takes 68 percent of the class.
Hashdex is the first out, not the last.
The wrapper class is consolidating around IBIT.
Price ran ahead of the chart. The tape is real, the structure is incomplete.
The cap is still twenty-one million.
