MT. GOX PUSHES REPAYMENTS TO OCTOBER 31, 2027 — THE FOURTH ONE-YEAR DELAY — THE TRUSTEE GIVES NO COUNT OF UNPAID CREDITORS AND NO BITCOIN BALANCE

On October 16, 2026, Mt. Gox's rehabilitation trustee, Nobuaki Kobayashi, moved the deadline for repaying creditors from October 31, 2026 to October 31, 2027, with the court's permission. Bitcoin.com counts it as the fourth one-year delay since the first deadline of October 31, 2023.

The notice says the trustee has "largely completed" repayments for creditors who finished the paperwork and hit no problems. Then it says "many rehabilitation creditors still have not received their Repayments." A "considerable number" more were held up by "issues arising during the Repayments process." The notice does not say how many creditors are still waiting. It does not say how much bitcoin the trustee still holds.

Outside estimates fill that gap, and they are not settled. Bitcoin.com writes that figures circulating in 2026 put the estate near 34,000 to 34,500 bitcoin, and notes the trustee does not confirm them. We could not check the number against anything the trustee has published.

Mt. Gox stopped withdrawals in February 2014. More than twelve years later, coins customers sent to an exchange are still in someone else's hands, paid out on a court's calendar. That is the bill for handing over the keys, and the people who paid it are still waiting. At the time of this writing, bitcoin was $81,815.
