FOUR DECADE-OLD WALLETS MOVED NEARLY TWO THOUSAND BITCOIN IN SIXTEEN DAYS — THREE CARRY TAGS FROM A NEW YORK SUIT CLAIMING 39,069 DORMANT WALLETS AS ABANDONED PROPERTY — THE CHAIN DOES NOT READ DOCKETS

Galaxy Research counted four decade-old wallets moving 1,971 bitcoin between September 6 and September 22. The largest, 1,260.78 coins, had sat untouched since July 2016. A 600-coin move had sat since July 2012. An address tagged “Noah Doe #3113” sent 100 coins on September 19.

The tag is the story. There is a case in New York Supreme Court, index 153119/2026, filed March 11 and amended May 1, captioned ABC Company, XYZ Company, and Noah Doe against John Does 1 through 39,069. It asks a judge to declare the plaintiffs the owners of 39,069 dormant wallets holding roughly 3.8 million bitcoin, on the theory that coins nobody has moved are abandoned property. Judge Kathy J. King stayed the case in early June pending a July hearing.

Three of the four wallets that just moved carry that suit’s tags. Somebody holding the keys is spending coins a court has been asked to award to strangers, and doing it while the case sits.

Understand exactly what a ruling could do. A judge can order the title changed on paper, and that paper would be enforceable against a person, an exchange, a bank. It would not produce a private key. The ledger has no clerk to serve. It accepts a signature or it does not, and the signatures coming out of those wallets are still coming from whoever has always had them. That is not a loophole. That is the whole design, being tested in public by somebody who did not have to show up to court to answer. At the time of this writing, bitcoin was $86,492.
