‘YOU DON’T ACTUALLY OWN THE MUSIC’ — RICK BEATO EXPLAINED BITCOIN TO 5.8 MILLION PEOPLE AND NEVER SAID THE WORD

“They can change anything. It could be the Odyssey. It could be the Bible.”
Rick Beato makes music videos for 5.8 million people. On Friday night he held up a CD case and said the part the streaming business never says out loud. If you bought a CD, you owned the music. On Spotify you pay every month and you own the right to play it for that month. Stop paying and it is gone. Then he got to the books. The AI companies buy old books, cut off the spines, scan the pages, and throw the paper away. Once the only copy is a file on someone else’s server, they can change anything. It could be the Odyssey. It could be the Bible. So he keeps the originals. Every CD he ever bought, every record since his first one in the early 70s, the players to run them, and a Blu-ray burner for the rest. He never says bitcoin. He does not need to. A subscription is an exchange account. A scanned book on a company server is a bank ledger. The original disc on your shelf is the key in your hand. He gets one thing backward. He thinks a solar flare could wipe out all digital data, which is why he burns discs. There is one digital record built for exactly that: thousands of copies on every continent, each one checking the rest, none of them able to rewrite what came before. It is the only file on earth nobody can remaster.

3:35–4:05, verbatim: “if you bought a CD, you owned the music... if you go to Spotify, you pay that subscription every month, but you don’t actually own the music. You own the rights to play the music for that month that you’re paying.”
4:12, verbatim: the AI companies “have been buying up all these old books and they cut off the spines and then they scan them and then they throw them away.”
4:26–4:34: “Imagine a world where everything gets wiped out, all digital data because of some type of event... Could be a solar event that wipes out all computers and all the data on it.”
7:05–7:22, verbatim: “Don’t let these AI companies dictate your reality by manipulating what is on there... They can change anything. It could be the Odyssey. It could be the Bible.”
8:10, verbatim: “I am pre-2023 Rick Beato.”
0:07: he cites the RIAA for CD sales up 58.7% this year. His citation; we did not check the RIAA figure.
Who profits: the video description sells his seven-course bundle for $99. The argument does not depend on it.
