WALL STREET BUYS $731 MILLION OF BITCOIN IN ONE DAY — BIGGEST HAUL SINCE JANUARY — THEN THE JOBS PRINT TESTED ITS NERVE
The same desk drove the biggest outflow and the biggest inflow of the week. That is a trading book, not a conviction — until today’s number says otherwise.
Thursday was the biggest day for the Bitcoin funds since January: $731 million in, more than three times any single day of August’s 11-day streak. BlackRock’s IBIT took $454 million of it, and the whole complex crossed $103 billion for the first time — a little over 6% of all the Bitcoin there is. Now the fine print. Two days earlier the same IBIT drove a $236 million outflow, the biggest of the week. Same fund, both directions, five days apart — that is a trading book moving, not a committee changing its mind. And Friday morning the jobs print knocked $1,900 off the price within 15 minutes, which is exactly the test this money gets: if the flows print above $500 million again today, it is the first sustained institutional bid since summer. If they flip negative, Thursday was a headline, not a bid.
KEY RECEIPTS
Thursday net inflow: $731 million, biggest single day since January (SoSoValue via CoinDesk).
By fund: IBIT $454M · ARKB $138M · FBTC $74M · Grayscale $57M combined. Only VanEck ($-20M) and WisdomTree ($-5M) shed.
Total net assets: $103.34 billion, first time over $103B — just over 6% of Bitcoin’s market value. Cumulative inflows since the January 2024 launches: $55.44 billion.
Contrast: Tuesday saw a $236M outflow, $201M of it IBIT — the same fund drove the week’s biggest outflow AND inflow.
Every fund rose 5.7–5.9% Thursday. Wall Street’s fear index (VIX) at ~14, lowest since January.
The test: a second straight day above $500M would be the first sustained institutional bid since summer — and it has to happen through this morning’s jobs-print drop to ~$79,400.
