THE 30-YEAR IS SIX HUNDREDTHS OF A POINT FROM WHERE IT SAT IN JANUARY 2007 — THE TREASURY SECRETARY SAYS HE HASN’T BOUGHT ANYTHING YET — BITCOIN CLOSED AUGUST UP ABOUT 25%
Two governments are at opposite ends of the same problem, and both ends showed up on the same day. Japan’s currency went through 160 to the dollar hours before the Bank of Japan published its shopping list — ¥2.5 trillion of its own government’s bonds, every month, on a printed schedule. That is a buyer who has to be there. Meanwhile the US thirty-year sits at 5.269%, which Cointelegraph puts six hundredths of a point under where it was in January 2007: before the financial crisis, before the years of central-bank bond buying that followed, before any of the last eighteen years. The ten-year is 4.76%, the highest since January 2025. And Scott Bessent, who holds the buyback tool and has been asked about it for weeks, said this out loud: “I haven’t bought anything yet.” One country is pretending the demand is there by supplying it itself. The other has not started pretending, and the price is showing what that costs. Neither is a crisis this afternoon. They are the same arithmetic arriving from two directions: somebody has to hold this paper, and the yield is whatever it takes to make them. Bitcoin finished August up about 25%, its best August since 2017. That is not a forecast and it is not a reason to buy anything. It is just the one number on the screen this morning that nobody has to be talked into holding.

BITCOIN IN AUGUST
▪Checked against the primary. The US Treasury’s own daily par yield curve last published Aug 28: ten-year 4.73%, thirty-year 5.22%. Today’s 4.76% and 5.269% are live market marks via TradingView; Treasury posts today’s figures after the close.
▪Across Aug 21–28 the Treasury series has the thirty-year between 5.17% and 5.27%. Today sits at the top of its own recent range, not outside it.
▪The “highest since January 2007” comparison is Cointelegraph’s. We have not independently checked it.
▪Bitcoin $78,732, up 0.54% on the day and roughly 25% for August — its best August since 2017. Cited support: the 50-week moving average at $77,269.
▪The Kobeissi Letter: “The bond market appears to be completely ignoring the US Treasury.”
▪We are not carrying the chart calls. A warning of “hidden bearish divergence” and a daily RSI of 70.7 are predictions, not facts, and the people making them sell analysis.
▪RELATED, same morning: the yen broke 160 and the Bank of Japan published its ¥2.5 trillion monthly bond-buying calendar.
