THE SAME BOND WENT OUT TWICE IN FOUR WEEKS — 5.216% ON AUGUST 13, 5.308% ON SEPTEMBER 10
On August 13, 2026 the Treasury sold a thirty-year bond and the buyers wanted 5.216%. On September 10, 2026 it sold more of that same bond, the same ID number, 912810UW6, and the buyers wanted 5.308%. Four weeks apart. Same paper, same promise, higher price.
The sale itself went fine. Twenty-two billion dollars offered, bids worth 2.6 times that, and foreign buyers took 79.5% of it. It is the highest rate at a thirty-year sale since August 2001.
So the world will still lend to America. It has only moved its price. Twenty-two billion dollars borrowed at 5.308% runs about $1.17 billion a year. Thirty years of that is roughly $35 billion in interest to borrow $22 billion, paid out of taxes nobody has collected yet, on a bond that comes due in 2056.
Who profits: the buyer, who gets 5.3% a year in dollars, provided the dollars still buy something in 2056. That is the whole bet. It is the one bet bitcoin never asks you to make.
