CRYPTO IS A PUBLIC LEDGER, NOT A HIDING PLACE — UAE AND SWEDEN ARREST SEVEN IN A $7.1M RING THAT PAID FOR CONTRACT KILLINGS

Here is the part the ‘crypto criminals’ headlines skip: the money moved two ways, and only one of them leaves a receipt. The UAE’s interior ministry says the ring handled “approximately 70 million Swedish kronor, equivalent to 7.1 million USD, over a ten-month period,” by “circulating cash, and using crypto currency transactions to move proceeds from illicit activities.” Cash is the black box. A public ledger is the opposite: every hop is a permanent record anyone can pull up later. A gang that launders on-chain is a gang that files its own paperwork. So spare me the tale that coins let these men disappear. They did not disappear. Police in the UAE grabbed the Swedish leader, wanted on an Interpol Red Notice, while six more were rounded up in Sweden, seven in all, one plus six, per the release. The ministry credits cross-border coordination and shared intelligence, not some clever read of the chain. Fair enough. But the same transactions “funded violent crime in Europe including organised trafficking and contract killings,” and that is the ledger that matters: paid killers hired with washed money. Remember whose paper this is, the cops’ own release, cheering their reach across the Gulf. bitcoin.com rounded the haul to $7M; the ministry says $7.1M. Read the release, not the round number.
